Let me read to you!

Why me?
“Why of all the mothers did I get this one?” Every time the church doors are open, she drags me to church! I’ve got to be the only sixteen year old in church!” Dylan whispered to himself during the alter call. It seemed like an eternity, but the service finally ended. Arriving home, a rusty old car sat in the driveway, A car Dylan knew well. Eric, a friend from school, stepped out of the car.
“Hello ma’am. I came by to see if Dylan could go grab a bit to eat with me?”
“As long as you two go straight there and back. He has a few chores to finish before church tonight,” replied Dylan's mom.
The burger and fry were a welcome smell to Dylan’s growling stomach. “I can’t believe she let me come, especially on a church night!
“I don’t understand her forcing you to go to church. You’re young! You should be hanging with your friends exploring life. You’ve got the rest of your life to get ready to die. That’s decades away!” declared Eric as he stuffed a fry in his mouth.
“I know, but she doesn’t see it that way,” replied Dylan.
Eric cleared his throat, “Maybe it’s time you told her no. You’re almost an adult; what’s she gonna do, kick you out? I don’t think so!”
As promised, they headed back to Dylan’s. Eric reached into his pocket and pulled out his vape. “Wan to try it? Its pot, gets you high real fast. It will make all your worries fade like a sunset!”
Dylan giggled, “No thanks. If I go in there wobbling and mumbling, she wont ever let me go with you again!”
Eric sniggered, “ Didn’t think about that! Well, you better head in before she comes out to investigate.”
As the sun was setting, Dylan thought about his friends outlook on life. His day dreaming came to a sudden halt as his mom came into his room. "Dylan, I just got a call from the police department. Your phone number was in Eric's wallet. I have some sad news. Your friend was killed about half an hour ago. Seems he crossed the center line and hit a transfer truck head on. I’m sorry son. If you don’t feel like going to church tonight we can stay home.”
“No, I need to pray for his family and friends and myself. I understand now what you meant when you said, we’re not promised a tomorrow.”
